This game goes beyond 'setting the tone' and into the realm of wallowing in carnage and death fixation. It's oppressive far past what's warranted.Minor spoilers ahead? I dunno.Pretty much every tomb is inundated with ghastly remains of human sacrifices, with the scenes and skeletal remains staged to be overtly disturbing, saturated to the point where it's almost desensitizing. You've got Lara literally wading through rivers of blood, offal, and rotting body parts.Button-mash events (QTE's) reward failure with gratuitous, borderline gore-porn showing Lara being impaled, chewed up, and otherwise spindled and mutilated while she shudders, screams and twitches before finally going still. Why? Why'd they have to do this to what used to be a relatively cartoonish, more-or-less light-hearted franchise?I'm not squeamish, but this is just too dark-hearted given the prior history of this franchise. This is like Raiders of the Lost Ark meets Perils of Pauline meets Saw.It's too bad because the graphics engine is superbly tuned, and the combat mechanics are quite fun.

Leaves a bad taste. Originally posted by:You really need to go play My Little Pony, bud. No one cares if you dont like it here, just look at how outstandingly it's reviewed, and well earned.

Tis a masterpiece.Much chapped butthurt, rage, and 'existential crisis' crammed into such a superficial three-sentence post, over a few critical, rather obvious observations about a game.Is this so important to you? What are you going to do in the real world if someone says something to you that you disagree with, go 'REEEEE REEEE REEEEE' all the way home? 'I have no interest in the current Marvel franchise, as it is now.' 'Coors over Budweiser.' REEEEE!When an articulated opinion about a game gets you that peevishly defensive and acerbic, you really need to step back and take assessment.

I mean seriously now.IMO the game's got an unhealthy grossness factor that's weird and out-of-place to say the least - maybe that sort of thing gives you your kicks, I don't know. But this is teh Internets, Chauncey, and it's loaded with opinions you may not agree with. You don't like hearing it? I agree that this game can get pretty ridiculously gory at times, but at the same time it doesn't go out of its way to point it out to you it just wants you to suck it in and experience it.

I personally really appreciate the amount to gore and detail because it shows this game is trying to be real with you with just how ♥♥♥♥ed up this island is and that surviving here isn't going to be pretty. Most games wouldn't show nearly this much gore, but this game does not hold back and I respect that. I can understand how it may be too much for some people, but the game is rated M after all.

IIRC around the time the game originally came out one of the complaints was about how over the top the death animations were for Lara and I can understand that critique so seeing someone else also voice that isn't too wild for me (since I also think they're a bit much). Another critique was about how it feels like every thing attacks her to harden her through the crucible of agony and pain. However I don't really mind the overall gore aspect of the environment since it's nice world-building for the brutality of what the crazed cult on the island have been brainwashed to do along with the enemy unit you fight near the end of the game being very brutal in their treatment of enemies. I will say that this aspect of world-building by way of gore set-pieces was toned down as the following games are much larger than a contained island with a murder cult so if I'd say you can play them while watching a let's play of this one to get any important bits of story.

They still have the other the top death animations but at least there aren't blood rivers every few feet. Originally posted by:Because the previous ones were just glorified puzzle games. This one is an action-survival-puzzle game with realistic death scenes. Get used to the 21st century: no more room for one-trick ponies. I mean this guy is not wrongYou're not wrong people but IMO this game is a bit 'too much', this is essentially a Survival/Action game, not what i call an adventure game and sorry, maybe i'm too old for this ♥♥♥♥ but, where's is the adventure game i was playing when i was younger? Here i feel strongly oppressed by the rythm of the action, i feel like Yeepeekayeah!! I just shot an helicopter with no bullet (btw i'm allways searching for ammos so.).

Oh my fraking god they're starting again with that damn gatling.like seriously. The game is beautiful but what i just got in mind after a run is just blood and explosion. No seriously i really believe this is too much, and i got to precise i don't like little poneys games at all, i'm a dark souls player so i'm not affraid of darkness but here i believe this is a bit too much. And all that boring quests, mushrooms, eggs, orange trees (?!), so someone really believed i wanted to collect mushrooms in a TR???!! Is this an Assasssin's creed game in fact? Oh wait AC collectibles are more funny to search (wait wait??
